MONTREAL - George Russell's Canadian Grand Prix ended in disappointment Sunday when a power unit failure forced him to retire after a thrilling wheel-to-wheel duel with Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli.
Antonelli, the Formula One championship leader, took over the lead after Russell's car slowed and stopped on lap 30 of 68. Russell had started from pole position for the third consecutive year in Montreal. The 19-year-old Italian is chasing his fourth straight win.
Russell expressed his frustration by striking the car and tossing his headrest, a gesture noted by race control, before the virtual safety car was deployed.
