Iga Swiatek is banking on the expertise of her new coach Francisco Roig to turn her season around. The world number four begins her claycourt campaign at the Stuttgart Open following a disappointing start to the year. Swiatek experienced early exits at the Australian Open, Doha, Indian Wells, and suffered a surprise defeat at the Miami Open.

This led to Swiatek parting ways with her previous coach, Wim Fissette, and hiring Roig. Roig brings extensive experience, having coached Swiatek's idol Rafael Nadal from 2005 to 2022 and recently working with Emma Raducanu.

"I feel Francisco has lived through everything on tour," Swiatek stated in Stuttgart. "I was looking for someone technical, with a good eye, and experienced enough to help me navigate different situations."

Swiatek, a four-time French Open champion on her preferred clay surface, also trained at Rafael Nadal's academy in Mallorca, receiving feedback from the Spanish star himself. "It was a privilege to have him on court," she added.

Roig will now oversee Swiatek's coaching process moving forward.
