Liverpool centre back Ibrahima Konate stated he is nearing a new contract agreement with the club, as his current deal concludes at season's end.

The 26-year-old French international, acquired from RB Leipzig in 2021, has been a key component of Liverpool's defense. He has formed a strong partnership with Virgil van Dijk. During his tenure, Konate has secured Premier League and FA Cup titles, alongside two League Cups, and reached a Champions League final.

'We are close to an agreement,' Konate told reporters. 'There is a big chance that I'm here next season. This is what I've always wanted.' He indicated that discussions with Sporting Director Richard Hughes preceded recent speculation.

Despite a season ending without major trophies for Liverpool, Konate emphasized his commitment. 'It's been a bad season for the standards of Liverpool,' he admitted, but added, 'This club means so much to me.'
