PARIS - Jakub Mensik battled past Brazilian star Joao Fonseca 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(3) to reach the French Open semi-finals, becoming the youngest Czech man to achieve that feat at a Grand Slam.

The 20-year-old Mensik, who collapsed in the heat earlier in the tournament, thrived in cooler conditions after rain. He now faces title favorite Alexander Zverev.

Mirra Andreeva returned to the semi-finals with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Sorana Cirstea. She will face Marta Kostyuk, who won an all-Ukrainian quarterfinal against Elina Svitolina 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Kostyuk harshly criticized Russian players for their silence on the war in Ukraine.

Zverev also advanced, beating Rafael Jodar 7-6(3), 6-1, 6-3.
