One driver, Juha Miettinen, 66, died and six others were injured in a severe accident during the ADAC 24h Nuerburgring Qualifiers on Saturday. The crash halted the race after just half an hour. Miettinen was extracted from his BMW 325i, but resuscitation attempts at the Medical Centre were unsuccessful.
Four-time Formula One champion Max Verstappen, who was slated to compete in a separate event, was not on track during the incident. Verstappen expressed his shock on Instagram, calling it a reminder of motorsport's inherent dangers and extending condolences to Miettinen's family.
The Nuerburgring officials stated that the race would not resume on Saturday, with a minute's silence planned for Sunday. The Nuerburgring's Nordschleife circuit, known as the 'Green Hell', is a historic and challenging track in Germany's Eifel region.
