Jannik Sinner advanced to the Madrid Open quarter-finals Tuesday, defeating Cameron Norrie 6-2, 7-5. The win extended Sinner's ATP Masters 1000 winning streak to 25 matches. The match commenced in cooler morning conditions, avoiding the day's peak heat amid record pollen levels affecting the Caja Magica.
Sinner, seeking his first Madrid title, controlled the opening set, winning it in 35 minutes. In the second set, Norrie attempted to rally, but Sinner applied constant pressure. A crucial break came for Sinner at 3-2 following a Norrie underarm serve error. Norrie immediately broke back to level at 3-3, but Sinner secured another break at 6-5 and closed out the match in one hour and 26 minutes.
"I'm happy with my performance," Sinner stated. "I tried to be a bit more aggressive and I believe it worked very well for me against a very tough competitor."
Sinner is set to face Vit Kopriva or Rafa Jodar in the next round.
