John Korir of Kenya has won the Boston Marathon for the second consecutive year, shattering the course record with a time of 2 hours, 1 minute, and 52 seconds.
Korir seized control of the race at the 20-mile mark, overtaking Ethiopia's Milkesha Mengesha. He maintained a solo lead for the final six miles to secure his victory.
The previous course record, set in 2011 by compatriot Geoffrey Mutai, was 2:03:02.
The 130th running of the event began in chilly conditions with temperatures around 45 degrees Fahrenheit, aided by a slight tailwind.
