Ernesto Valverde has announced he will leave Athletic Bilbao at the end of the season, concluding a decade-long tenure as manager across three spells. He became the club's most successful coach in history, overseeing more matches and wins than any predecessor.

Under his leadership, Bilbao secured their first Copa del Rey title in 40 years during the 2023-24 season and claimed the Spanish Super Cup in 2015. Valverde, who also played for the club between 1990 and 1996, made 188 appearances and scored 50 goals.

His final match in charge will be Sunday’s LaLiga clash against Real Betis - his 495th game managing Bilbao. The club confirmed the farewell will occur later this season.
