Matteo Berrettini says he finally feels like he can compete at a high level again after advancing to the fourth round of the French Open.
It's the first time the former world number six has reached the second week of a Grand Slam since 2022.
Berrettini battled past Argentina's Francisco Comesana in a five-hour thriller, winning 7-6(3), 5-7, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(15-13).
The Italian wiped away tears after the victory, admitting he'd doubted himself deeply over the past few years.
"I thought that I couldn't come back... that's why I was emotional, because I proved to myself that I can do this," Berrettini said.
He will now face another Argentine, Juan Manuel Cerundolo, who famously upset world number one Jannik Sinner in the second round.
