Champions McLaren will debut a "completely new car" at the upcoming Miami Grand Prix, Formula One team principal Andrea Stella announced. The significant aerodynamic upgrades are slated for delivery ahead of the North American races.
Despite Mercedes dominating the season's opening races, the gap between the teams narrowed in Japan. McLaren's Oscar Piastri finished second, narrowly behind Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli, with a safety car period impacting the outcome.
Stella confirmed the updated MCL40 will feature across both the Miami and Canadian races. He anticipates similar upgrades from competitors, suggesting the competitive order may remain stable, with the focus on performance gains within the same development timeframe.
Mclaren currently holds third place in the constructors' standings, 89 points behind leaders Mercedes. Despite limitations on wind tunnel use and CFD, chief designer Rob Marshall stated the team's methodical approach prioritizes effective developments over extraneous testing.
