Ducati's Marc Marquez will be sidelined for both the French and Catalan Grands Prix after fracturing his right foot in a violent crash during Saturday's sprint race at Le Mans.
The reigning world champion suffered a highside on the final lap, thrown from his bike as it cartwheeled through the air. Marquez had planted his right foot on the track just before the crash and was seen hopping on one leg before being taken to the medical center.
"After a medical check and X-ray, Marc Marquez was declared unfit for a fifth metatarsal fracture in his right foot. He will fly to Madrid tonight to undergo surgery," Ducati said in a statement.
It's another setback for the 33-year-old Spaniard, who has yet to finish on the podium this season. Marquez currently sits fifth in the championship standings, 51 points behind Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi.
