An anti-gay chant by Mexico fans has resurfaced, placing the 2026 World Cup co-host under scrutiny from FIFA. The slur was heard at least three times during Mexico's 3-0 victory over Czechia on Wednesday night.

The chant, historically directed at opposing goalkeepers, has previously resulted in fines and sanctions for the Mexican Football Federation. FIFA's updated disciplinary code outlines a three-step procedure for such incidents, which can lead to match suspension or abandonment.

Despite past fines-$65,000 from FIFA-and playing qualifier matches in empty stadiums, the chant has persisted. The federation has issued videos condemning the action and threatened ejections, but the fan behavior continues. FIFA must now decide on further disciplinary action against one of its tournament hosts.
