MIAMI - The Miami Grand Prix has been moved up by three hours to 1 p.m. (1700 GMT) on Sunday to avoid a severe storm threat, Formula One officials announced after Saturday's qualifying session.
The decision came after consultations with local organizers and the FIA. Officials said the move was made to "prioritise the safety of drivers, fans, teams and staff" and to provide the largest possible window to run the race in optimal conditions.
A Porsche Cup race and other support events were canceled.
The race, the fourth round of the season, takes place at Hard Rock Stadium. Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli, the championship leader, starts from pole.
Drivers have not yet faced wet conditions in the current engine era, and lightning is a particular concern. Organizers have issued suspension and shelter-in-place protocols for teams.
