Alabama Crimson Tide guard Aden Holloway was arrested Monday in Tuscaloosa on charges of first-degree marijuana possession and failure to affix a tax stamp. Prosecutors allege officers discovered 2.1 pounds of marijuana and evidence of drug transactions on his phone following a trash search triggered by civilian complaints.
Holloway's attorney claims the search was unconstitutional and vows to challenge the evidence admissibility. The 21-year-old was released on a $5,000 bond but faces significant uncertainty regarding his basketball future.
Head coach Nate Oats indicated Holloway is unlikely to return for the team's Sweet 16 matchup against Texas Tech. Despite the NCAA removing marijuana from its banned substances list in 2024, the legal complications sideline the conference's second-leading scorer during a critical tournament run.
Holloway averaged 16.8 points per game this season. Alabama advances in March Madness without their key playmaker.
