LONDON, June 21: American tennis icon Serena Williams will make her highly anticipated return to singles at Wimbledon, receiving the final wildcard from the All England Club. This marks her first singles competition at the Grand Slam in four years, having initially accepted a doubles wildcard with sister Venus.

The tournament announced the news on Instagram, emphasizing the significance of her participation. Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, played doubles at this month's Queen's Club championships and competed in Berlin recently. Though she stated she would 'evolve away from tennis' after the 2022 U.S. Open, she never officially retired.

Williams' Wimbledon history began in 1998, with her first singles title won in 2002 against Venus, totaling seven Wimbledon singles championships. Known as the greatest female tennis player, she dominated the sport, spending 319 weeks as the WTA world number one.
