Novak Djokovic believes Wimbledon could be the ideal venue for Serena Williams' potential return to tennis. The 23-time Grand Slam champion, who hasn't competed since the 2022 U.S. Open, re-entered the sport's anti-doping program last year, sparking comeback speculation.
Djokovic stated he hasn't spoken to Williams but senses a return is likely. "I pick that one (Wimbledon) as well as her comeback," he told reporters, also suggesting she might play doubles with her sister Venus. He emphasized Williams' status as "one of the greatest athletes" and that her return would be a welcome sight for tennis.
Tennis Channel analyst Prakash Amritraj noted Williams would likely need warm-up matches before a Grand Slam event. He speculated about her potentially playing smaller tournaments beforehand, humorously adding a wish for a Serena-Williams and Roger Federer mixed doubles match at the U.S. Open. Williams' former coach, Rick Macci, also pointed to her rigorous training as an indicator of a potential comeback.
