Serena Williams is set to return to competitive tennis at age 44. The 23-time Grand Slam champion will enter the doubles draw at Queen's Club in London on a wildcard.

Williams last played on the WTA Tour in September 2022, retiring after a third-round loss at the US Open.

"Queen's Club feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter," Williams said. "Grass has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career."

Williams re-entered the anti-doping pool last year, fueling speculation. Novak Djokovic said in March that she could target Wimbledon. Former coach Rick Macci said she is "going all out" in training.

Her sister Venus, still active, competed at the Australian Open in January.
