Naomi Osaka dismissed Daria Kasatkina 6-1, 6-3 on a sun-drenched Court One to reach the last 16 at Wimbledon for the first time. The match lasted just over an hour.
The 14th seed mixed power with precision from the baseline. She fired a backhand winner to break in the second game and followed it with a deep forehand to claim a double break, racing through the opening set.
Osaka faced brief resistance in the second set but brawled back, finishing the contest on her second match point with characteristic style. The victory continues her best run at the All England Club.
"I've actually never won on this court, so I'm really glad to have made a really good memory here," Osaka told the applauding crowd.
She now faces either world number one Aryna Sabalenka or Jelena Ostapenko for a spot in the quarter-finals. Osaka noted she is taking it "one day at a time, one point at a time."
