Novak Djokovic's pursuit of a record 25th Grand Slam title ended Friday in a stunning third-round loss to Brazilian teenager Joao Fonseca at the French Open. The final score: 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, 7-5.
Djokovic, who turned 39 last week, started strong, taking the first two sets and appearing in control. But Fonseca, whose birth came after Djokovic's first major win, fought back. He took the third set and mounted a fierce comeback in the fourth.
The match swung in the decider. Fonseca broke Djokovic to go up 6-5 and then sealed the victory with three straight aces. The win makes Fonseca the first teenager to beat Djokovic in a Grand Slam.
Djokovic's exit follows the earlier elimination of top seed Jannik Sinner, leaving the men's draw wide open.
