The world's top female curlers have arrived in Calgary for the BKT Women’s World Curling Championship, a prestigious eight-day tournament commencing Saturday at the WinSport Event Centre.

Team Canada, led by skip Kerri Einarson, aims to leverage home-ice advantage. Einarson, a bronze medalist from the 2023 championship, expressed her honor in representing Canada on home soil. The Canadian squad, including Val Sweeting, Shannon Birchard, and Karlee Burgess, is eager to compete before a supportive crowd.

Calgary previously hosted the world championships in 2021. Switzerland, with skip Alina Pätz, claimed the women's title that year. Canada has secured the past two championships, with Rachel Homan representing the nation in 2024 and 2025.

Organizers anticipate a surge in curling's popularity, potentially boosting club memberships and tourism. The tournament is projected to generate approximately $11 million for Calgary's economy.

Team Canada's opening match is against Sweden, captained by Olympic mixed doubles gold medalist Isabella Wranaa. The championship culminates with the gold medal match on March 22.
