China’s Ministry of Education and four central departments have initiated a landmark push to embed artificial intelligence across the national education system, targeting full curriculum integration by 2030.
The 'AI + Education Action Plan', launched in mid-April 2026, mandates that AI education be woven into local curricula and after-school programs for every primary and secondary student. The government aims to create a vertically and horizontally connected system that covers all age groups.
Zhou Dawang, director of the Ministry’s Department of Science, Technology and Informatization, stated the core goal is establishing a general AI literacy framework with an emphasis on inclusivity. The initiative also triggers parallel reforms in teacher training and certification.
The strategy directly supports China’s broader roadmap to become a global education powerhouse by 2035 and aligns with the national 'AI+' economic integration agenda. Deployment of AI-powered learning tools in classrooms is already underway.
