Flytrex has partnered with Little Caesars to launch a new drone delivery service in Wylie, Texas. Customers can order up to two large 16-inch pizzas, sides, and drinks through the Flytrex app, with a total weight limit of 8.8 pounds.
The order goes directly into Little Caesars' system and is prepared as usual. Instead of a driver, the drone collects the food curbside via remote pickup and flies to the customer's home, taking about four and a half minutes. Upon arrival, it hovers and lowers the food on a wire.
The new Sky2 drone uses an octocopter design with eight motors and dual batteries for reliability. It navigates via satellite and onboard AI, delivering within a four-mile radius.
Flytrex has completed over 200,000 deliveries in the US, including operations in North Carolina. The service is currently limited to Wylie, Texas, but signals a shift toward faster, traffic-free food delivery.
Amit Regev, CEO of Flytrex, stated, "The Sky2 changes that." Trish Heusel, VP of innovation at Little Caesars, called the partnership "a major leap forward."
This development raises questions about noise, safety, and the frequency of drone flights in residential areas, but it also points to a future where drone delivery becomes the norm.
