Google Messages has officially launched real-time location sharing for Android users. This new feature allows individuals to share their live whereabouts with contacts, facilitating easier meetups and providing safety assurances. Previously, Google Messages only supported static Google Maps links for location sharing. The updated functionality integrates directly into conversations, mirroring capabilities found in other popular messaging applications like WhatsApp and iMessage. Users can select a custom sharing duration, ranging from one hour up to 24 hours, or opt for continuous sharing until manually stopped. While messages remain end-to-end encrypted, the location data is processed via Google Maps.

To utilize this feature, users must be signed into their Google Account. The process involves opening a conversation, tapping 'Attachment,' then selecting 'Real-time location.' After accepting the updated settings, users can choose a duration and send their location. Existing conversations can also be used to initiate sharing. Users can revoke access at any time by selecting their shared location and tapping 'Stop sharing.'
