An Iran-linked hacking group, Handala Hack Team, has breached the personal email account of FBI Director Kash Patel, accessing photos and documents including his resume.
The FBI confirmed awareness of the breach, stating the compromised data is historical and contains no government information. Stolen images reportedly show Patel at a hotel, beside a jet, and with a bottle of rum.
Cybersecurity experts note attackers increasingly target personal accounts due to weaker defenses. Eric Stride, CSO at Huntress Inc., warned that even unclassified personal data can reveal sensitive patterns-especially as AI tools accelerate social engineering.
This marks Handala Hack Team’s second major attack this month. On March 11, the group crippled medical device maker Stryker Corp., deleting data across thousands of Windows systems and disrupting global operations. Most production lines have since resumed, though order processing remains impaired.
