Meta is accused of using a network of parenting influencers-dubbed “momfluencers”-to shape public perception on child safety, as scrutiny over its platforms intensifies.

According to the Tech Transparency Project (TTP), the tech giant promoted its Instagram “Teen Accounts” by inviting hundreds of creators to curated events. These influencers then echoed Meta’s talking points to millions of followers, often with paid partnership disclosures.

This comes after Meta lost multiple U.S. lawsuits alleging it failed to protect minors, including a case by New Mexico’s Attorney General over sexual exploitation.

Notable promoters include former Duck Dynasty star Sadie Robertson Huff, who praised the Teen Accounts in a 2024 video. Also named: influencers Alexia Delarosa, Noelle Downing, and reality TV’s Leroy Garrett. At least 11 doctors and therapists also promoted the accounts, some appearing as paid speakers.

Adolescent medicine specialist Dr. Hina Talib said she worked with Meta on a limited basis but insisted on using her own wording.

The report further claims Meta used these influencers to support legislation that would require Apple and Google’s app stores to handle age verification-shifting responsibility away from Instagram.
