Beijing-based Moonshot AI has launched Kimi Work, a desktop application capable of coordinating up to 300 specialized AI agents in parallel on local hardware. Powered by the new Kimi K2.6 model, this release marks a significant leap from the previous 100-agent limit, targeting high-complexity knowledge work without relying on cloud infrastructure.
The underlying K2.6 architecture utilizes a 1-trillion-parameter Mixture-of-Experts design. By activating only relevant sub-networks for specific tasks, the system efficiently manages workflows spanning approximately 4,000 steps. This allows for autonomous execution of complex sequences, including multi-source research, data cross-referencing, spreadsheet generation, and meeting scheduling.
Security and privacy remain central to the platform’s value proposition. All operations, including file access and browser automation via the WebBridge extension, occur locally on macOS and Windows machines. No user data routes through external servers by default, addressing growing enterprise concerns regarding data sovereignty.
Moonshot AI’s rapid technological advancements have fueled explosive financial growth. Valued at $4.3 billion in late 2025, the company’s worth surged to $20 billion by May 2026. Reports indicate Moonshot is currently seeking up to $2 billion in fresh funding, which could propel its valuation to $30 billion. The firm continues to release open weights under a modified MIT-style license, cementing its status as a major player in the agentic AI sector.
