Match Group has settled a U.S. Federal Trade Commission lawsuit alleging it shared OkCupid user data without consent. The FTC claimed that millions of users’ personal details, including nearly 3 million photos and location data, were provided to Clarifai, a facial recognition firm, in 2014.
OkCupid’s privacy policies reportedly did not disclose this data transfer. Under the settlement, Match is barred from misleading consumers about data privacy and must verify future compliance. The company denied no wrongdoing. A court must still approve the deal.
OkCupid said its privacy practices have since improved and that the past conduct does not reflect current operations.
