Allegations of sexual misconduct against International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Karim Khan remain under review by the court’s executive branch.
Khan has temporarily stepped aside while an internal investigation proceeds. He denies any wrongdoing.
An independent panel of judges concluded unanimously that the evidence does not establish misconduct or breach of duty. The Bureau of the Assembly of States Parties now must confirm the assessment.
The probe coincides with U.S. sanctions on Khan and other ICC prosecutors for their role in investigating alleged Israeli war crimes in Gaza, including the indictment of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The ICC, with 125 member states, faces an existential challenge as key leadership vacancies and geopolitical pressure mount.
