A New York judge declared a mistrial in the rape case against Harvey Weinstein after the jury announced it was deadlocked and unable to reach a verdict.
This marks the third time a New York jury has considered the case against the 74-year-old former film producer. The month-long trial centered on whether Weinstein raped aspiring actress Jessica Mann in a Manhattan hotel room over a decade ago. His initial conviction for that rape was overturned on appeal.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg stated prosecutors are evaluating whether to bring the case to trial again. Weinstein remains incarcerated on other charges.
Weinstein's lawyers called the mistrial evidence of deep-seated public prejudice, urging the DA's office to drop the case and focus on violent crime in New York City.
Dozens of women have accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct since 2017. He denies all wrongdoing.
