AI-generated deepfakes are increasingly being used to target Ukrainian soldiers and undermine morale. Forensic AI detection company Sensity AI has identified over 1,000 manipulated videos on social media, with a core dataset of 60 AI-altered clips designed to appear as authentic frontline footage.

These fabricated videos depict scenes of despair, criticize Ukrainian military leadership, and normalize surrender, all with the intent of sowing confusion and eroding trust. Researchers warn that these deepfakes, often originating from anonymous accounts on platforms like TikTok and Telegram, are strategically amplified across major social media networks. Pro-Russian military bloggers and state-affiliated media then disseminate the content, further influencing public perception of the war.

Sensity AI's Founder, Francesco Cavalli, states the danger lies not just in individual videos being believed, but in their ability to shape perception at scale and gradually erode trust in what audiences see.
