The funeral of seven-month-old Sam Fahd Abu Haikal was held in Hebron, a day after he was fatally shot by an Israeli soldier while in a car with his family in the occupied West Bank.
His father, Fahd, carried Sam's body wrapped in a Palestinian flag to the graveyard. Fahd and the boy's grandmother say they obeyed orders to stop before soldiers opened fire.
The Israeli military says soldiers “perceived a threat” from the vehicle accelerating toward them, acknowledging the family were “uninvolved civilians” and expressing “deep sorrow.”
Fahd rejected the apology, saying: “When there is no warning shot, it can't be a mistake.”
The shooting happened in Tel Rumeida, a Hebron flashpoint where Israeli settlers live under heavy military protection.
