Israel launched air strikes on Syrian government infrastructure in southern Syria overnight, targeting a command center and weapons depots. The move responds to attacks on Druze civilians in Suweida province.

The Israeli military stated it “will not tolerate harm towards the Druze population in Syria” and warned of stronger action if needed. Defense Minister Israel Katz accused Damascus of exploiting regional instability to target Druze communities.

Syria condemned the strikes as a violation of its sovereignty, calling Israel’s justification “fabricated.” The Syrian interior ministry claimed its forces were dismantling a criminal network linked to drug trafficking and car theft, arresting nine suspects.

Recent clashes erupted after mortar fire hit Druze-controlled areas, followed by shelling in Suweida city. The violence echoes last July’s deadly confrontations involving Druze fighters, Sunni Bedouin tribes, and government forces.

Despite fears of broader regional entanglement, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa insists Damascus is avoiding involvement in the wider Middle East conflict ignited by recent Israel-U.S. strikes on Iran.
