A Singaporean man who repeatedly abused his infant nephew-in-law over three months, including drowning attempts and choking until the child foamed at the mouth, was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

District Judge Koo Zhi Xuan called the acts a "grave affront to human dignity," noting the abuse was premeditated and not a result of caregiver stress. The man recorded 34 videos of the assaults.

The abuse ended when a passerby saw the man choking the 11-month-old at a public housing void deck and called police. The man admitted he acted out of a grudge against the child's father.

The victim, now 21 months old, shows developmental delays and requires speech therapy. The judge ordered the offender to pay $4,000 in compensation and urged the family to focus on the child's recovery.
