Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit has successfully undergone a lung transplant at Oslo University Hospital Rikshospitalet. The Royal Palace confirmed the procedure marks a critical step in treating her rare pulmonary fibrosis, diagnosed in 2018.

Professor Arnt Fiane, a cardiothoracic surgeon at the University of Oslo, stated the operation proceeded well. The 52-year-old princess will remain hospitalized for several weeks to manage medication adjustments and monitor for complications during early recovery.

The Palace released a statement expressing the royal couple's sincere gratitude for public support during this challenging period. This medical milestone occurs just days after her eldest son, Marius Borg Høiby, was sentenced to four years in prison for rape and domestic abuse offenses.
