A U.S. missile strike on an Iranian elementary school, which claimed over 150 lives, was the result of a targeting error, according to a New York Times report.

Preliminary findings suggest the U.S. military was targeting an adjacent Iranian base, formerly including the school's location. Target coordinates were reportedly set using outdated data provided by the Defense Intelligence Agency. Investigators are examining why this information was used and who failed to verify it. The school building had been fenced off from the base between 2013 and 2016. President Masoud Pezeshkian blamed the U.S. and Israel, while U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated the U.S. would not intentionally target a school.
