President Donald Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi are facing a lawsuit over the U.S. government's approval of a deal by TikTok's Chinese owner ByteDance. The suit alleges the approval of the majority American-owned joint venture was illegal and failed to meet the requirements of a 2024 law.

Filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals in the District of Columbia by the Public Integrity Project on behalf of two retail investors in rival social media firms, the lawsuit seeks a renegotiation of the deal. It aims to prevent administration allies from potentially censoring political content on the popular platform. The suit does not seek to ban TikTok, which is used by 200 million Americans.
