The "Van of Hope," the 1980 Ford Econoline that followed Terry Fox during his Marathon of Hope, is now on display at the Steel Wheel Motor Museum in Halifax.

The exhibition opens 46 years after Fox began his historic run.

Fox, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in 1977, had his right leg amputated. In April 1980, he embarked on a cross-country marathon to raise money for cancer research.

The "Van of Hope," often behind Fox, served as home for his brother Darrell or friend Doug Alward.

Restored by Ford Canada in 2008, the van retains its 1980s interior and lettering.

Fox ran for 143 days, covering over 5,300 kilometers, before his run ended prematurely in September 1980 due to the spread of his cancer. He passed away in June 1981.
