The Alberta Medical Association reports another patient has died while waiting for care at a major hospital.
Dr. Brian Wirzba, president of the AMA, says the man arrived at Edmonton's Royal Alexandra Hospital on May 8 and died several hours later in a waiting room.
Alberta Health Services says it is investigating and cannot comment further due to privacy.
This follows the death of 44-year-old Prashant Sreekumar at Edmonton's Grey Nuns Community Hospital in December after waiting nearly eight hours. The provincial government ordered a judge-led inquiry into that case and announced a physician-led triage program, which Dr. Wirzba says is still not in place.
Wirzba says the latest death underscores the strain on Alberta's healthcare system.
