Celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito says many people sabotage their weight loss with 'fuzzy math' when counting calories.

In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, the New York City restaurateur and health-focused cookbook author explained there is no single cure for everyone. Each weight-loss journey is unique. The No. 1 issue he sees: people have no idea how many calories they consume, often two to three times more than they realize.

'Even when we count and use the apps, there's a lot of fuzzy math going on,' DiSpirito said. He stressed that even small bites while cooking or cleaning add up quickly. Without intense exercise like a professional athlete, you cannot out-train a bad diet.

Start with the basics: less sugar, fewer processed foods, fewer processed carbs, and more protein. DiSpirito noted the U.S. faces an obesity issue, but most restaurants still prioritize getting customers in and out over healthy eating.

Healthy eating, he argued, doesn't have to be unenjoyable. In countries like Italy, the food supply remains natural and organic, allowing indulgence without compromising health. 'Healthy and indulgent are not mutually exclusive,' DiSpirito said. But in America's modified food system, it remains difficult.
