New retrospective data from a New York tertiary care center suggests Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) do not elevate the risk of recurrence or progression in patients with well-differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC).

A study analyzed 1,072 DTC patients, comparing 536 exposed to GLP-1RA therapy with 536 unexposed. Patients were matched on age, diagnosis date, TNM stage, BMI, and diabetes.

Multivariable analysis, adjusting for key factors, found no significant association between GLP-1RA use and disease recurrence or progression. The hazard ratios in both survival and full cohorts indicated no statistically significant effect on DTC's natural course.

These findings offer reassurance to clinicians, indicating eligible DTC patients can use GLP-1RA therapy for diabetes or obesity without heightened oncological concerns, while still benefiting from cardiometabolic advantages.
