Baby food brand HiPP has issued a major recall of its entire range of jarred purées sold in Spar supermarkets across Austria. The company warns that its carrot and potato jars may have been tampered with, making consumption potentially "life-threatening."

The recall is a precautionary measure, affecting over 1,500 Spar, Eurospar, Interspar, and Maximarkt stores. HiPP stated that products sold in other countries are not affected. Police in Austria's Burgenland region are investigating and say tampered products may be identified by a white sticker with a red circle on the base. Customers can return affected jars for a full refund.

This incident follows recent large-scale recalls by Nestle and Danone of infant formula in over 60 countries due to contamination with the toxin cereulide, which sickened dozens of infants.
