Lactalis Canada has initiated a voluntary recall of its Lactantia UltraPūr two per cent milk, sold exclusively at Costco, citing a critical food safety risk.
The recall, triggered on June 5, targets a specific lot expiring on June 22. The product was pulled due to observed over-fortification of Vitamin A and D, exceeding the recommended daily intake limit and posing a health danger to consumers.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is investigating, and the probe may expand to other products. The company clarified the recall is strictly limited to the Costco-exclusive lot and does not impact other retailers.
Consumers are advised to discard the product immediately and consult a physician if symptoms arise. No illnesses have been reported to date.
