A new systematic review confirms the FDA-approved biologic dupilumab is effective for treating children with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis.

The analysis, covering approximately 1,200 children from infants to age 12, shows rapid and sustained improvements. Disease severity scores dropped by 62% to 92%, and quality of life measures improved by up to 89%.

Dupilumab is an interleukin receptor antagonist. It is currently the only FDA-approved biologic specifically for pediatric atopic dermatitis.

The review found the treatment had a favorable safety profile, with mild adverse events like conjunctivitis being most common. Adherence rates were high, at least 90% in most study groups.

The authors concluded the findings support dupilumab as a systemic option for children whose condition is not adequately controlled by topical therapies. They call for more research on long-term outcomes and cost effectiveness.
