Australian bodybuilder and transformation coach, Anna McManamey-Cashion, provides three essential tips for regaining fitness momentum after holiday overindulgence, emphasizing a guilt-free approach.
"Ditch the guilt and focus on the benefits of your break, like shared memories or boosted training energy," advises McManamey-Cashion. "Then, move on."
Drink Plenty of Water: Swapping sugary drinks and alcohol for water is crucial. Water aids digestion, reduces fluid retention from excess sodium and carbohydrates, flushes toxins, and improves nutrient absorption. Active individuals should increase intake to compensate for sweat loss.
Get Some Exercise: Physical activity boosts endorphins, stimulates digestion, and helps burn excess calories. A solid workout can keep mood levels high and prevent the body from storing excess energy as fat.
Be Gut Friendly: Overindulgence often involves processed foods that disrupt gut health. McManamey-Cashion recommends consuming gut-friendly foods like kimchi, sauerkraut, and blueberries while avoiding inflammatory items such as gluten, dairy, refined sugar, and alcohol. She stresses returning to a normal eating routine promptly, without resorting to extreme measures like skipping meals.
