Acute Care Alberta (ACA) has issued 16 recommendations following the death of 44-year-old Prashant Shreekumar, who passed away while waiting for care at Edmonton's Grey Nuns Community Hospital. Shreekumar died after an eight-hour wait in the emergency department for chest pains.

The recommendations address critical vulnerabilities including prolonged wait times and overcrowding. Key proposals involve increasing emergency department staffing with 24/7 electrocardiogram technician coverage and converting temporary nursing positions to permanent roles. Plans to expand the emergency department site are also highlighted, contingent on securing capital and operational funding.
An accountability framework with clear performance measures for emergency care is also recommended. The Shreekumar family expressed concern over the lack of concrete deadlines and funding for these proposals, questioning the nearly two-month delay in the report's public release. Global News has sought comment from the Minister for Hospitals and Surgical Health Services.
