Police in Austria are warning of potentially poisoned HiPP baby food after a sample of the brand's carrot and potato purée tested positive for rat poison. The contaminated jar was discovered in Eisenstadt, eastern Austria. Fortunately, the baby did not consume the food. Authorities believe the jar had been tampered with.

HiPP has recalled its entire range of jarred purées sold in Spar supermarkets across Austria, stating consumption could be "life-threatening." Police suspect at least one more poisoned jar is in circulation and are urging vigilance. Parents are advised to check for damaged lids, missing seals, unusual odors, or a specific marking on the jar.

Toxic additives were also found in similar jars in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The Eisenstadt public prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into intentional endangerment. Baby food sold in other shops and HiPP's baby formula remain unaffected.
