Saskatchewan's child advocate is alerting to a disturbing trend: young children dying with fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine in their systems. A report indicates 13 children under five died and 29 were hospitalized between 2019 and 2025 after coming into contact with illicit substances in their homes.
The exposure likely occurred through ingestion, inhalation, or breast milk. While three deaths are directly attributed to drug exposure, others may have been exacerbated by it. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact causes for the remaining fatalities.
