Several Californians have filed a class-action lawsuit against Sutter Health and MemorialCare. The suit alleges that an AI transcription tool, Abridge, was used to record patient visits without explicit consent, potentially violating state and federal privacy laws.

The plaintiffs claim their confidential physician-patient communications were captured and processed by the AI system during recent medical care at these facilities. They assert they were not clearly informed that their sensitive health discussions would be recorded, transmitted externally, or processed by third-party systems.

Abridge's AI service has seen widespread adoption by major healthcare providers across the nation.
