Sheena Akbal, wife of Singaporean singer Taufik Batisah, has revealed a deeply personal struggle: undergoing six rounds of in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) and experiencing a miscarriage. She shared these details for the first time publicly on the new podcast "Couch Conversations," which she co-hosts with financial services director Nur Amirra.
Akbal, 42, spoke candidly about the emotional toll of repeated treatments and the profound loneliness of the infertility journey. She highlighted how intrusive questions from others can be triggering, recounting instances of strangers touching her stomach.
Akbal stated her intention in speaking out is to help others feel less alone. "IVF, trying to conceive… it’s a very lonely journey," she said. "When I share about it, people who are going through the same thing will feel less alone."
Despite the difficulties, Akbal expressed acceptance and gratitude for other blessings in her life. She credited her husband, Taufik Batisah, a real estate agent and business owner, as a constant source of support throughout every appointment.
In a subsequent podcast episode, Taufik Batisah and Nur Amirra's husband joined the conversation, offering their perspectives as partners supporting their wives through the challenging process. Batisah praised his wife as a "trooper" and expressed deep admiration for her resilience. He has also shared on social media his unwavering support and gratitude for their life together, emphasizing that he would never blame his wife if they do not succeed in having children.
