Aston Villa ended their 30-year trophy drought in style with a 3-0 win against Freiburg in the Europa League final in Istanbul on Wednesday.
Goals from Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Buendia, and Morgan Rogers secured the victory, giving Villa their first silverware since the 1996 League Cup and their first major European prize in 44 years.
Manager Unai Emery won the Europa League for the fifth time, having previously won with Sevilla and Villarreal. The triumph caps a remarkable turnaround for Villa, who were near the relegation zone when Emery took over in October 2022.
Famous fans Prince William and Tom Hanks were among those celebrating. Villa also secured Champions League qualification for next season with a win against Liverpool last week.
The win banishes memories of recent near-misses, including losses in the UEFA Conference League semi-finals and Champions League quarter-finals.
